No ER last night…

What a long week … and it will be longer … took the youngest to the pulminologist yesterday. I knew his breathing sounded bad at night but even my husband said he looked better during the day. Still… at night it was not good. We get to the doctor’s office and they pull us in for the normal ‘check’. They took his oxygen level about 4 times before looking at me. I knew it wasn’t good. For those not use to oxygen numbers… average person 99 to 100 is normal… with asthma 97 to 100 is normal. Anything below 96 is go to ER, get xrays, oxygen and IV. My youngest was showing 92.

Yaa, the doctor is talking collapsed lung, pneumonia and other things. Did I mention the older one is with us because HE is running a fever and coughing? Needless to say, lack of sleep, two sick kids and that man had me close to tears. Not on purpose … it was just overwhelming to hear it.

They gave the youngest an albuteral ‘cocktail’ and got his level to bounce between 95 and 97. Enough that they said I could take him home and nebulize him every 3 hours. They also told me sleep was important and not to wake him during the night to nebulize him. So I didn’t wake him. I set the alarm and just held it in front of his face. He sounded HORRIBLE last night. Z-pak, pulmicort, prednisone, antihistamine, singular, and nebulizing… the kid is also hypoglycemic. His body is in turmoil… but if I don’t give him the medicine we will end up in the hospital. Not a bad thing but not a good thing when you have another sick kid as well that needs you.

I will be letting the kids play electronics today as I need to take a nap or two. We’ll see what tonight brings…
